We know how frustrating roof leaks can be, and how expensive they can become without proper repair and attention. While Mad City currently does not offer roofing services, we do love to offer advice! Are you seeing some leaks as a result of your roof showing signs of wear and tear? Here are four easy ways to find out if your leak is being caused by your roof:

Broken shingles

One of the easiest to identify and most common causes of a leaky roof is broken shingles. These can be diagnosed by even inexperienced homeowners as they’re immediately visible. Damage can happen during major storms with high winds and it is recommended to check your shingle’s integrity afterwards to ensure there are no new problem areas.

Broken flashing

Flashing is the thin material roofers use to direct water away from critical areas of your roof, and it is often placed where your roof meets a vertical surface like a wall. Broken flashing can be harder to identify than broken shingles as damage to this area often isn’t as dramatic in appearance. If you notice a new leak you’ll want to have the flashing at the source of the leak checked as this is a common area of concern.

Condensation in the attic

Condensation can form in your attic and not only cause a leak, but mold as well. Properly maintaining your attic and roof can keep condensation from forming and jeopardizing your home.

Clogged gutters

Your gutters are important to help water properly drain off of your roof and away from your home’s foundation. Maintaining your gutters can help make sure that they are properly functioning. Regularly cleaning out your gutters can remove one more common roof leak cause.

So now you know some of the ways to spot roof leaks. We recommend getting your roof inspected every year to maintain the safety of your home and the longevity of your roof. If you’re looking to upgrade your home internally, contact Mad City today for a free estimate!
